The international match is designed to prepare both sides for the 2020 IIHF Women’s World Championships in Nova Scotia at the end of March.
The PWHPA team will be coached by PJ Michael, Laura McIntosh and Lauren Jukes. Suiting up for the PWHPA will be Nicole Hensley, Kimberly Sass, Alex Cavallini, Blake Bolden, Jacquie Greco, Katelyn Gosling, Savannah Harmon, Olivia Zafuto, Daniella Matteucci, Amanda Kessel, Haley Skarupa, Reagan Haley, Genevieve Bannon, Dakota Woodworth, Anissa Gamble, Shae Labbe, Catherine Quirion and Gigi Marvin.
Jayna Hefford expressed excitement regarding the opportunity for the PWHPA to go to Asia.
“The PWHPA is excited to be able to help grow the women’s game in Japan, and be a part of the preparation plan for the Japanese national team, leading into the world championships,” Hefford told the PWHPA’s website.
“This is a great opportunity for hockey fans in Japan to see some of the top players in the world. We are very proud of this partnership and look forward to working with the Japanese federation to continue to build the game for women worldwide.”
The PWHPA will host a Dream Gap Tour event in Voorhees, New Jersey later this month prior to the event in Japan and a Dream Gap Tour stop in Arizona in March.
