The ‘Dream Gap Tour’ is back this weekend when the PWHPA makes a stop in Hudson, New Hampshire. We here at The Women’s Hockey Tribune are extremely excited to sponsor the event.
This week, we’ll get you set for the event with a look back at the first stops and an in-depth look at the rosters that will battle it out at Cyclones’ Arena in Hudson. Before we can look ahead, we must look back.
The first stop on the ‘Dream Gap Tour’ was Toronto, where Team Poulin edged Team Knox 2-1 and Team Jenner topped Team Johnston 4-3 in the first games of the weekend.
Team Jenner was paced by a pair of goals from Jenna McParland, including the game winning goal. Team Poulin, meanwhile, rode goals from Mélodie Daoust and Ann-Sophie Bettez to their victory. Bettez’s goal came with less than five minutes left in the game, ending a terrific first day of hockey.
Team Johnston and Team Knox played a thrilling consolation game on Day 2, with the first shootout in PWHPA history. Blayre Turnbull scored a hat-trick for Team Knox, while Rebecca Johnston scored in regulation and the shootout in the victory. Her goal was the lone one in the skills competition, which followed a scoreless three-on-three overtime.
In the Championship game, Team Poulin cruised to a 5-1 victory over Team Jenner. Daoust scored her second of the weekend in the win, while Laura Stacey added a pair including the event winner.
In other events, the PWHPA fell 3-2 to Boston College in an exhibition at the Conte Forum. Megan Myers scored a pair for the PWHPA, but an own goal (credited to Hannah Bilka) changed the tide in BC’s win.
Lastly, the PWHPA sent a team to SAP Center to battle the San Jose Sharks alumni. The PWHPA proved victorious in this tilt, getting a 3-2 decision. Scott Hannan and Mike Ricci both tallied goals for the Sharks, while Gigi Marvin, Kendall Coyne Schofield and Haley Skarupa all lit the lamp for the PWHPA.
The start of the Dream Gap Tour was exciting, with three stops and six terrific hockey games. This weekend will provide fans a chance to see four more great games in Hudson. Stick with us all week as we get you set for Hudson!
